When patients come to us with a ‘gummy’ smile, we often recommend laser gum sculpting as a solution. A so-called ‘gummy’ smile, is a smile that disproportionately displays more gum than tooth, leading it to look uneven and less photogenic.

There are a variety of reasons why you might have a ‘gummy’ smile, but some of them include an overgrowth of gum tissue which is often caused by inflammation or simple genetics. Other causes include enlarged gums, hyperactive lip muscles, or vertical maxillary excess which causes the upper jaw to bulge slightly.

Our aim here at SnapeHill is for all of our patients to be able to smile with confidence. For many people with a ‘gummy’ smile, however, this simply isn’t possible. They feel self-conscious about their smile, and this in turn can damage their self-confidence and feelings of wellbeing. Laser gum sculpting can address this, by lifting the gums and sculpting or contouring them into a natural shape that enhances the smile.

The treatment itself will leave the gums looking smaller in comparison to the teeth. Excess tissue is removed via the use of a laser, and our skilled practitioners here at SnapeHill will sculpt them into a more aesthetically pleasing shape. Laser gum sculpting can be done in just one appointment, and because the laser seals the blood vessels automatically, there’s very little inflammation or bleeding after the treatment. This means your recovery will be faster, and you’ll be smiling with renewed confidence before you know it.
