Did you know that your oral health has a direct relationship with your general health?
Dental and oral health is an essential part of your overall health and well-being. Poor oral hygiene can lead to dental cavities and gum disease, and has also been linked to heart disease, cancer, and diabetes.
What are some conditions that may affect your oral health?
- Diabetes – can reduce the body’s resistance to infection and can puts your gums at risk causing periodontitis. This is a severe form of gum disease that causes your gums to pull away from your teeth and potentially result in them falling out. However, changing your diet to keep your blood sugar under control is often an effective solution.
- Heart disease – poor dental health increases the risk of a bacterial infection in the blood stream, which can affect the heart valves. Gum disease (periodontitis) is associated with an increased risk of developing heart disease.
- High Blood Pressure – raises your risk of developing gum disease, so if you have it, you may be more likely to have red and bleeding gums. Patient with gum disease can have a harder time controlling blood pressure levels.
How does the Snape Hill Dental Studio Health Screen service work?
- First things first, you’ll need an appointment and it’s easy to get one online. As part of the booking process, you’ll be asked some questions to make sure the service is the right option for you.
- Fasting before your appointment provides best results - Having only water, coffee or tea without sugar or milk will provide the best results. If your appointment is later in the day try not to eat 2 hours before your appointment.
- Go to your appointment at one of our Dental Clinics The screening appointment itself will only take a few minutes. Our specially trained health clinicians will run through some questions, talk you through the process and make sure everything is clear. If your health screen is scheduled with an existing appointment this will be performed during that appointment. Our health clinicians then use a special analyser to process a very small sample of blood taken from the finger and perform a few simple screens to provide you with all your results. Your results only take minutes to process and you will have access to them instantly.
- What happens next? If your results all show within normal range, keep up the good work. If any results show out of range you will have the opportunity to be referred to your GP. Results are not a diagnosis. These screens offer you to know more about your where you may lay within the healthy ranges set by the NHS.
